Below is a summary of the Optional Tours developed for the ASBA Conference attendees, their partners and companions. All tours will be offered on an exclusive basis and depart and return to SkyCity Convention Centre, Federal Street (excluding the Coffee Cruise which concludes at the wharf).. Minimum and maximum numbers apply to each tour.

If a named supplier is unavailable, a substitute supplier will be used where possible. Times are approximate only and subject to change to meet any weather, road or supplier restrictions.

Children - Child rates are availalbe on application, however Auckland offers many fun activities for children, some of which can be viewed on these websites: Aucklandnz, Kidspot or ViewAuckland. Explore Auckland Multipass - Four attractions, one price.

Waiheke Island Tour
Time: Departs 9.15am / Returns 5.00pm
Cost: NZ$220 per person

Travel by ferry to and from Waiheke Island.
Waiheke Island is always 3 degrees warmer than Auckland and home to about 9,000 people, 35 vineyards and olive groves. View stunning scenery and white sandy beaches and visits to art galleries.

Sightseeing Tour of Auckland
Time: Departs 12.30 pm / Returns 4.30pm

Auckland is the "city of sails" and home to 48 volcanoes. Highlights will include Auckland harbour bridge, Mount Eden, a guided tour of the world class Auckland Museum, morning tea, Tamaki Drive, Eastern suburb beaches and Parnell.

MONDAY 18 JULY



View to Rangitoto Island from Fullers Ferry

Rangitoto Island
Time: Departs 8.30am / Returns 4.15pm
Cost: NZ$160 per person

Sitting majestically just off the Auckland coast is this 600 year old volcano with a unique landscape of rugged lava crops, native bush and sandy coves.  Travel to the summit on the Volcanic Explorer Road Train and enjoy the guided journey.
Then enjoy a guided tour of some of the historic holiday homes followed by afternoon tea.
Make sure you take plenty of water, a hat, sun screen, snacks/lunch and sturdy walking shoes.  Rangitoto Island has no shops.

Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple
Time: Departs 9.00am / Returns 1.30pm
Cost: NZ$135 per person

This is a very special tour. The stunning architecturally designed temple is a place of peace and contemplation. Enjoy a tai chi lesson, morning tea and lunch in the Tea House and a guided tour of the temple including an art exhibition. You will long remember this visit

Coast and Rainforest Walk
Time: Departs 10.00am / Returns 5.00pm
Cost: NZ$230 per person

Moderate walking ability required along with walking shoes or walking sandals.
This guided tour takes you to the wild and rugged west coast. Walk on black sand beaches and in coastal rainforest. Discover some of New Zealand’s unique flora and fauna. 70% of our native plants are found nowhere else in the world. Enjoy a kiwi-style picnic at a scenic location.

Cooking Class with "foodie" Mark McDonough
Time: Departs 2.45pm / Returns 5.30pm
Cost: NZ$100 per person

Cooking class with one of New Zealand’s most dedicated foodies – Mark McDonough. Mark and his dedicated foodie team at Zarbo are at the forefront of the cafe, deli and gourmet food scene in New Zealand. Zarbo is synonymous with quality, innovation and service. Mark's love of food has taken Zarbo from cafe beginnings to wholesale food provider. He's a cook, a cookbook author and in tandem with Dean Brettschneider has recently opened New Zealand's first in-store micro artisan bakery at Zarbo.
Here is your chance to explore the shelves of wonderful deli and gourmet foods at Zarbo and then learn how to make two recipes from Mark and Dean’s cookbook – The Cook and the Baker.  Firstly traditional potted cheese and secondly Melanzana Dolce (chocolate eggplant dish). These two dishes are flavoursome dishes and easily prepared at home. There will be tastings of each dish plus wine, tea and coffee.

Coffee Cruise on Auckland's Harbour
Time: Departs 9.45am / Returns 12 noon to the wharf
Cost: NZ$75 per person

Actual sailing time, 10.30am to 12 noon. Cruise on Auckland’s magnificent Waitemata Harbour under sail. Sit back and relax and take in the sights or be as “hands on” as you would like to be.

THURSDAY 21 JULY

Waitomo Caves and Rotorua Day Trip
Time: Departs 7.00am / Returns 8.15pm (approx)

Visit the world famous Waitomo limestone formations and cave systems to see the shimmering lights of thousands of tiny glow worms.  In Rotorua learn about sheep farming at the Agrodome sheep and farm show and visit Te Puia with its boiling mud pools, hot springs and magnificent geysers.
