Science in New Zealand Conference
When: Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 November, 2006
Where: The Arts Centre, Christchurch
Held in the historic venue of the Christchurch Arts Centre, next to Rutherford’s Den where our most famous New Zealand scientist was educated and carried out his earliest research, this conference focussed on the future of New Zealand science. New Zealand’s top emerging scientists were showcased together with presentations from distinguished national and international speakers invited to share their perspectives on hot issues in science. Speakers included Steve Maharey (Minister of RS&T), Kathy Sykes (Professor for Public Engagement in Science and Engineering, Bristol), Paul Zorner (Diversa Corporation), Anne Firth Murray (Founder of the Global Fund for Women), Robert Jaffe (Professor of Physics - MIT), Neville Jordan (Endeavour Capital), Paul Callaghan (MacDiarmid Institute) and David Skilling (The New Zealand Institute).
